Killing Royalty
When will people learn that cars aren't toys? This drag racing child killed people from the Royal Family of Tonga. I heard about this accident this morning and know exactly where it is because I used to work not far from there. This just plain didn't have to happen.
A car accident in Menlo Park last night claimed the lives of His Royal Highness Prince Tuipelehake of Tonga and his wife Her Royal Highness Princess Kaimana, Chief Deputy Coroner Tom Marriscolo confirmed this afternoon.
Prince Tuipelehake, 55, and Princess Kaimana, 45, were in a red Ford Explorer when another car collided with it on northbound Highway 101 near Marsh Road in Menlo Park. The two were identified by family members at the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office around 3 p.m., Marriscolo said.
The family was with the Tongan Consult General and their pastor.
Prince Tuipelehake is the nephew of King Taufa ‘ahau Tupou IV.
The couple’s driver, Vinisia Hefa, 36, of East Palo Alto, was also killed during the crash.
Police arrested Edith Delgado, 18, shortly after the accident and could face either manslaughter or muder charges.
Delgado was allegedly driving a white 1998 Ford Mustang at a fast, reckless speed around 9 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 north of Willow Road.
When she came up behind another vehicle and attempted to pass it on the right, she struck the driver’s side of a red 1998 Ford Explorer, causing its driver to lose control, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ricky Franklin.
The Explorer, moving toward the right shoulder, overturned an unknown number of times and landed on its roof, Franklin said. The driver, a woman approximately 40 to 50 years old, and two passengers were killed in the crash.
Delgado stopped her car and was arrested. She is under investigation for vehicular manslaughter and could be arraigned tomorrow afternoon.
This was senseless and ridiculous and the reason why some folks don't need driver's licenses. I see people driving like clowns all of the time and it drives me up a wall - not to mention it scares me too. This chick caused the death of three people and has all but certainly ruined her own. I hope the punk she was racing fesses up and turns themself in too.

Agreed! I just saw on TV where Ms. Delgado has pleaded NOT GUILTY and hired a sleazebag attorney named Randy Moore who specializes in getting people off in drunk driving cases. The TV report says the most this "turd with legs" Ms. Delgado will do is 8 years for manslaughter (that's the MAXIMUM you understand and Mr. Moore will be pleading for less!) This is fucking MURDER, not an accident! I've been disgusted ever since I heard about it! Meanwhile the media (movies and TV) continue to glamorize reckless driving where nobody ever gets injured or killed. Don't get me started on those "Fast and Furious" movies! Another speeder ran over an 11 year old bicyclist and killed him in Richmond the same night! Anarchy on the highways and the California Highway Patrol is nowhere to be seen! Pathetic!
She is a "model citizen" and an "honor student". Thats a bunch of BS if you ask me and the fact that she pleaded Not Guilty makes it even more nauseating. Its bad enough we recently had an 89 year old man in Connecticut who ran down 27 people at some summer festival. The old and young are extremely dangerous when it comes to operating a motor vehicle.

That was definitely some stupid stupid driving. poor girl she had to crash into a Royal vehicle though. serves her right she should be charged on TWO accounts- for drag racing AND manslaughter. prince tuipelehake's sister siulikutapu might have forgiven her but i don't think the people of Tonga will. even if she gets less than 8 yrs she'll live with the guilt for the rest of her life.

Edith has gotten what was always coming to her.
She was not an honor roll student heading anywhere -
she was a bully, and a potential murderer since I met her.
She tortured small animals and left death threats in my desk.
Redwood High School is a place where people like Edith attempt desperately to graduate - it's a last chance place for drop-outs and kids having a hard time.

Diana, I went to Andrew P. Hill High School in East San Jose and even though I was labeled as a loner and a cool guy I felt scared of going to school. Why? Street racing in the morning, stupid gangster wannabies in my face telling me "what you claim?!" only because I am latino. I hope those who put people endangered get they prison time. - U.S. PFC N.E.
I think you're all right about Ms Delgado. Even 8 years in prison can't heal what she has done. Our prince and princess are gone, they won't come back. Delgado is totally a murderer. We as Tongans, thinks that it was a setup, meaning that somebody paid Delgado to do the killing. Think of this, why did the police officer being killed?, and last week the doctor too being murdered...theres something fishy about this. People please could you help out in trying to unfold wat really happen please.

Ok this topic may be old, but I some how ended up on this forum. I wasn't going to post anything until I read what 'Lan A real Tongan citizen' wrote. It wasn't a 'hired hit' on the Royal couple moron. The officer died from a self-inflicting gun shot. As for the physican, I never heard of any physican being murdered. Just stop it already.
For the other Tongans posting comments can you just give it a rest with your racial slurs. I feel your anger, but there's no need to go about it the way you are. It's a great loss for our country, but don't let your bitterness give our country a bad name. We are forgiving people and if Princess Siuilikutapu can find it in her heart to forgive Edith then you should too, because it's not like you KNEW HRH on a personal level!
I myself have mixed feelings towards Edith. I felt bad for her, but then to see that she pleaded not guilty was like a slap in the face. I mean really....you don't feel at all guilty? At least plead 'no contest'. Secondly ok so she was an Honor Roll student...cookie for you, BUT dude you went to a CONTINUATION school! They portray her as such a great person that has had something terrible happen to her, BUT nobody told HER to SPEED!!!! Nobody told her or forced her to race....NOBODY, BUT HERSELF! I agree that 8 years isn't enough; 'cause let's face it she'll probably get off on good behavior, which in reality she'll only be doing 4 years or maybe less. I laugh because I seen her myspace page before they took it down and yeah she came off as a 'bully'...I mean duh that is why her lawyers had her page erased....they're trying to keep the 'she's an innocent little girl' image goin. Based on what I have read of the accident the Ford SUV was clipped then lost control and turned over several times. THAT didn't have to happen, Ford makes unsafe SUV vehicles that have a tendancy to roll over if the driver swerves, then collapse killing or critically injuring the occupants. Last year I was involved in an SUV rollover in a Ford, several of the occupants were critically injured and one killed. The driver swerved, the vehicle began to fishtail then rolled over. The only difference is that we weren't clipped by another car to start the chain of events. Had they been in a sedan they would have walked away without injury. Please take a minute to look around the internet, there are lots of websites out there that discuss SUV's lack of safety.
