Dumbest Move Of All Time
I'll buy that!
The mouth of the South is at again.
CNN founder Ted Turner said yesterday the U.S. invasion of Iraq was "one of the dumbest moves that was ever made by anybody," right up there with "the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and the German invasion of Russia."
Asked if he was comparing those events, Turner replied: "I'd like to. Why not? The dumbest moves of all time? Yeah."
Turner was interviewed at the Times Square headquarters of Reuters news service on the ninth anniversary of his $1 billion gift to the United Nations.
He said he believed the Iraq war had done "incalculable damage" to how the U.S. is now viewed by many of the UN's member states.
"Before Iraq, we were the most popular nation in the Earth, and now we're one of the most feared and mistrusted," he added.
Turner, now 67, left the Time Warner board last spring and serves as chairman of the United Nations Foundation, which he set up to funnel his $1 billion toward the world organization.
